Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola would like Tottenham's Dele Alli - Xavi

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola would be interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli this summer, former Barcelona star Xavi was quoted as telling The Sun.

Guardiola has said he would like to add top English players to his squad and Alli, 21, was this week named the PFA Young Player of the Year for a second successive season.

Xavi was quoted as saying: "I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players.

"I am sure in the summer he will look also across Europe for players to improve the squad, but also I expect him to look in The Premier League as well.

"At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player.

"Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes his teams to play.

"I am sure it is not going to be a player that Tottenham will want to let go, but we know Manchester City have big resources."

Alli has already become a senior figure at White Hart Lane and has scored 20 goals in 44 matches this season to help Mauricio Pochettino's side move second in the Premier League.

City, who have signed young England internationals Raheem Sterling and John Stones in recent years, have also been linked with moves for Tottenham and England full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, although Spurs insist they do not need to sell any of their players.
