PSG could target Arsenal's Lucas Perez instead of Alexis Sanchez - source

Paris Saint-Germain remain keen on Alexis Sanchez but may target his Arsenal teammate Lucas Perez instead, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.

PSG are interested in Sanchez as a potential big-name summer signing and RMC Sport claims contact has been made with his agent. However, they are likely to face competition from the Premier League with sources telling ESPN FC that Manchester United and Manchester City are also keen to secure the player.

As reported last month, there are a number of factors that could influence a move for the 28-year-old.

PSG have recently made progress in their attempts to convince Edinson Cavani to commit his long-term future to the club.

The Uruguay international looks set to sign a new deal that will keep him at Parc des Princes until at least 2020.

The main stumbling block in talks with Cavani over the past few months had related to the appearance bonuses he would receive but discussions are now moving past that.

Despite his phenomenal season in front of goal so far, the source said Cavani is uncomfortable with the idea that PSG might bring in another top quality striker to compete with him for the central role.

He wants to avoid a return to the situation he experienced with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which saw him regularly played out wide.

If Sanchez were to sign, it could mean he might get pushed out wide to keep Cavani satisfied -- assuming coach Unai Emery keeps his team playing in a 4-3-3 formation.

However, January signing Julian Draxler's impact and Angel Di Maria's recent declaration of happiness in Paris illustrate that Les Parisiens' attack could already be in place for next season with only greater depth.

Because there is no clear space in the starting XI for Sanchez, the source says PSG could now move for Perez instead because they still need an alternative to Cavani to take some of the pressure off his shoulders but that backup option must not be of a similar calibre.

Perez, who excelled with Deportivo La Coruna before joining Arsenal, is reported to be unhappy with a lack of chances in this campaign.

Emery was reported to be keen on Perez when he was Sevilla coach and is considering the possibility of a return to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for midfielder Vitolo as he looks to bolster the squad in certain areas this summer.

The source adds that uncertain futures of sporting director Olivier Letang and director of football Patrick Kluivert -- particularly the former -- could also prevent PSG from competing with Manchester City for Sanchez at present.
