Borussia Monchengladbach's Mahmoud Dahoud to join Dortmund

Liverpool target Mahmoud Dahoud will join Borussia Dortmund in the summer, his current club Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed.

Dahoud, a Germany under-21 international midfielder, has signed a five-year deal at the Westfalenstadion.

The 21-year-old had been identified as a possible summer transfer target by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, Dortmund -- Klopp's old club -- have beaten him to Dahoud, who will leave Gladbach after seven years.

"A decision has been made: Mahmoud Dahoud will be leaving us. He has chosen to join Borussia Dortmund," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told reporters on Thursday.

"It was important for the player and the club that a decision was reached. Now it's off our minds and we can move on.

"This transfer shows that we're doing good work. Our task is to develop talents and be successful."

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said in a statement on the club's official website: "Mo Dahoud is a highly talented and exciting player in central midfield, whom we have followed closely for several years.

"He has already proved that he can play at the top level."

Neither club has disclosed the transfer fee, but it was reported that Dortmund triggered a €10 million release clause not including future bonus payments.
