Bayern Munich should target Arsenal's Granit Xhaka - Ottmar Hitzfeld

Bayern Munich could line up Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka to replace Xabi Alonso, former manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has told Blick.

Veteran midfielder Alonso announced this week that he would retire at the end of the season, leaving a vacancy in Bayern's side.

Hitzfeld, who also coached Xhaka during his time in charge of the Switzerland national team, says the 24-year-old midfielder has has enough quality to make the grade with the Bundesliga champions.

"Bayern surely has Xhaka on its radar," Hitzfeld said. "Xhaka is always talked about at top clubs and he still has potential to develop."

Xhaka joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 for a fee in the region of £30 million but his first season at the club has been marred by disciplinary issues after picking up two red cards and eight bookings.
