Swansea in talks with Benfica over Lisandro Lopez loan - sources

Swansea City are in talks with Benfica over a loan deal for defender Lisandro Ezequiel Lopez, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.

Swansea boss Paul Clement is looking to bolster his defensive options before the close of the transfer window and he has targeted a move for Argentina international Lopez.

Struggling Swansea have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, having conceded 51 goals so far this season, and Clement knows he needs to shore up his backline if they want to stay up.

Lopez has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Benfica side this season with Victor Lindelof and Luisao the preferred centre-back pairing at the Estadio da Luz.

Lopez joined Benfica from Argentine side Arsenal de Sarandi in 2013, but he has been unable to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI.

The 27-year-old has only made five starts in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season and could be tempted by regular first-team football.

Swansea are now hoping to strike a deal with Benfica to take Lopez on loan for the rest of the season before next Tuesday's transfer deadline.
