Paris Saint-Germain set to sign Goncalo Guedes from Benfica - source

Paris Saint-Germain are closing on the signing of versatile attacker Goncalo Guedes from Benfica, a source close to the French champions has told ESPN FC.

Guedes, 20, will arrive in France on Tuesday, with his medical planned for Wednesday morning before signing a four-and-a-half-year contract at Parc des Princes.

The Portugal international could be unveiled before the end of the month, along with fellow January arrival Julian Draxler -- who has not yet been officially presented to the press after his move from Wolfsburg.

Guedes, who has come through the ranks with Benfica, is expected to cost PSG around €25 million (£22m).

Director of football Patrick Kluivert has been in Lisbon this week to push the deal through with the aid of Guedes' agent Jorge Mendes.

Guedes has been dubbed the "new Cristiano Ronaldo" and can play out wide or through the middle.

Although he will be expected to take some of the weight from Edinson Cavani's shoulders in attack over the second half of the season, Guedes is likely to be another option on the wing for coach Unai Emery long-term.

However, he could also be an alternative to Javier Pastore as a No. 10 when the Spaniard decides to play with a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Portuguese press reported on Monday night that Guedes hosted a farewell dinner with his Benfica teammates before preparing to depart for Paris.

Emery confirmed in a news conference on Monday that Guedes is "one on our list of names who we are working on to potentially improve this PSG side" and praised the youngster as "a good attacking player, who currently plays there for Benfica."
