Patrick Kluivert: Paris Saint-Germain did not try to get Memphis Depay

Paris Saint-Germain director of football Patrick Kluivert has denied that he attempted to convince Memphis Depay to make a late U-turn on his move to Lyon in favour of the French champions.

The current Netherlands international made his Lyon debut as a substitute after 79 minutes of Les Gones' 3-1 home win over Marseille in Ligue 1 last Sunday after completing his switch from Old Trafford earlier in the week.

However, speaking with L'Equipe the day before, compatriot Kluivert rejected Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas' claims at Depay's presentation at Parc OL that he had tried to swoop in late.

"I know Memphis very well," said the former Netherlands international. "I spoke with him but did not try to sign him. I am very glad he is playing for Lyon now. I did speak with him but it was not an attempt to try to get him."

Instead, PSG are believed to be closing in on Benfica's Goncalo Guedes as they search for attacking reinforcements. Kluivert promised further January business following the securing the signature of Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg at the start of the month.

Guedes, 20, is a Portugal international and as well as playing out wide, he is also able to play through the middle and could solve Kluivert's search for a backup to the in-form Edinson Cavani until the end of the season.

Long-term, Guedes could also be an alternative to injury-prone Javier Pastore as No. 10 and occupy a role behind Cavani but still in the middle.
