PSG still seeking to sign striker this month, coach Unai Emery confirms

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has confirmed the French champions are still in the transfer market for a striker this month and the Spaniard has also revealed he sees Lucas Moura and Angel Di Maria as positional rivals.

The Spaniard was speaking in his prematch news conference ahead of Saturday's trip to take on FC Nantes in Ligue 1 and although he admitted Les Parisiens are still searching for a striker to compete with Edinson Cavani, he conceded January is not ideal for business.

"What I am saying on this topic will not change," said Emery. "If there is an available player who can improve our team, then we are open to them.

"It is a difficult transfer window. The club is continuing to work hard to find a player that will boost us in attack. We will keep looking."

When questioned on Di Maria, recent rumours linking the Argentina international with a move to China -- and El Fideo being benched in favour of Julian Draxler away at Rennes last week -- Emery explained the South American is now competing with Brazilian Lucas for a starting role.

"We want two players for every position," he said. "On the right, there are Lucas and Angel -- Both prefer this side. Competition is good for the team.

"On top of that, we will play a lot of matches. they are ready and both are capable of making decisive passes and scoring.

"There is also the possibility of using them on the left because we only have Julian there. There is still need for a second player in this position."

As far as squad news was concerned, Emery noted the absences goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, playmaker Javier Pastore and left-back Layvin Kurzawa through injury, as well as right-back Serge Aurier because of international duty.

"Alphonse is suffering from a pain in his neck, so he has not trained over the past few days," the Basque tactician explained. "Grzegorz and Javier are working with the fitness staff [after knee injuries].

"Layvin has been laid low with a fever and has not trained this week. He will try to be ready for Tuesday. Serge is on international duty. Otherwise, the players are fine."
