Ashley Young happy at Man United despite China interest - source

Manchester United utility man Ashley Young is happy at the club, despite reports he is close to a lucrative move to China, a source close to the player has told ESPN FC.

Young, 31, has been linked with Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League, but is content with life at Old Trafford, despite limited opportunities under Jose Mourinho this season.

The midfielder-turned-defender has made 10 appearances for United this season and last started a Premier League game on Nov. 6, but has been a regular during United's Europa League campaign.

Signed from Aston Villa as a winger by Sir Alex Ferguson for £17 million in the summer of 2011, his contract runs until June 2018, though the club have an option to renew for a further year beyond that.

However, despite playing in a number of positions -- including full-back and centre forward -- under Mourinho and predecessor Louis van Gaal, the presence of Antony Martial and Marcus Rashford has closed off opportunities for him on the left flank, where Young made his name early in his career at Villa and Watford.

As a result, the player has been linked to Everton, Swansea and West Brom in the Premier League and, while the source told ESPN FC that Young's preference would be to remain in England to be near his young family, he remains happy with life under Mourinho.

United's sale of Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for £24m this month, and impending sale of Memphis Depay to Lyon for a reported £16m, may yet free up opportunities as Mourinho continues a clear-out of players signed by his predecessors.
