Crystal Palace enquire about Tottenham's Ben Davies - sources

Crystal Palace have made enquiries for Tottenham defender Ben Davies as Sam Allardyce looks to bring in a new left-back, sources close to the Eagles have told ESPN FC.

Allardyce has made Davies his top target to fill the left-back role at Selhurst Park, but faces a major battle to persuade Tottenham to let the defender to leave.

Palace have already signed Leicester's Jeffrey Schlupp this month, but he has earmarked Schlupp to play on the left-wing and he wants Davies to solve the problematic left-back role.

Davies has found himself behind Danny Rose in the pecking order at Tottenham and has only started three Premier League games so far this season.

Allardyce is hoping the lure of regular first-team football could persuade the Wales international to make the move to Selhurst Park, but Tottenham have no plans to sell any of their first-team squad unless the offer is too good to turn down.

Tottenham are reluctant to lose Davies as they aim to keep hold of their squad while competing in the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League in the second half of the campaign.

Palace have also seen a move for Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson fall through over personal terms.
