Manchester United, Lyon agree fee for Memphis Depay - sources

MANCHESTER -- Manchester United have agreed a deal to sell Memphis Depay to Lyon in a transfer worth a potential €25m to the Premier League club, sources have confirmed to ESPN FC.

Depay, a £25m signing from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015, will fly to France on Wednesday ahead of a medical on Thursday.

The Dutch winger has proven to be a huge disappointment at Old Trafford since United held off interest from Paris Saint-Germain to sign the 22-year-old.

But with United wary of completely cutting their ties to the player, the club has negotiated a buy-back option as part of the deal to protect against Depay realising his potential in France.

United have also agreed a sell-on clause with Lyon, should the club make a profit on their investment in the Netherlands international.

Depay's exit is expected to be the final piece of outgoing business at United this month.

United had previously said that Depay would be allowed to leave during the transfer window if a suitable offer was made and manager Jose Mourinho said last month that the player had expressed his desire to move away from Old Trafford.

The Dutchman has scored just seven goals in 53 appearances for United and has not figured under Mourinho since playing the final eight minutes of the 4-0 Europa League victory against Feyenoord in Manchester on Nov. 24.
