Tottenham add Teemu Tainio's son Maximus to academy squad

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing Maximus Tainio, son of their former midfielder Teemu Tainio, from HJK Helsinki, the Finnish club have announced.

The transfer will go through in June 2017, when 15-year-old Tainio will join Spurs' academy, and the deal includes the option for a professional contract.

Teemu, who made 83 appearances for Spurs between 2005 and 2008 and won the League Cup, is a regular visitor to Hotspur Way and he was joined by Maximus at the club's Enfield training base last Thursday, after the deal was completed.

The former Finland international, 37, who also does some scouting for the club, said: "This is where the work begins. Now the doors are opened and the boy has a real chance to show his ability. The next step depends on him."

Maximus added: "I am very pleased with the agreement, since this is a pretty rare for a Finnish player. The future, of course, will stretch me, but I am getting used quickly to a new environment."

Maximus will join Maurizio Pochettino, also 15, son of Spurs manager Mauricio, in the club's academy. Pochettino's other son, Sebastiano, 21, works at the club as a sports scientist.
