Everton agree £22m fee with Man United for Morgan Schneiderlin

Manchester United have agreed to sell Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for £22 million, sources close to the deal have told ESPN FC.

United manager Jose Mourinho had spoken on Friday about a move not being close to completion at that stage and, over the weekend, Everton boss Ronald Koeman then said that it was "up to the board" to get desired deals done.

A £22m transfer has now been agreed which means that United are close to recouping the £24m that they paid Southampton for the midfielder when former manager Louis van Gaal recruited him in summer 2015.

Mourinho confirmed to Sky Sports after the 2-0 win over Hull in the EFL Cup: "I can't give details but before the match, I was told by Mr. [Ed] Woodward that the situation is close. Morgan is more than probably going to Everton."

The Man United boss then added in his news conference: "I'm sad and I'm happy. I'm sad because I like him. I am happy because this is what he wants.

"He wants to play and be an important player in a team. He is a very good professional."

Koeman had spoken last month about how he was aware of reports linking West Bromwich Albion with the Frenchman, but he has seen off competition to seal the player that he wanted.

Schneiderlin has had a difficult time at United, failing to nail down a regular spot under Van Gaal, and then being rarely used by new boss Mourinho after the Portuguese took over this summer.

Mourinho also spoke on Friday about Memphis Depay -- who has held talks with Everton, sources have told ESPN FC -- but said that move was not close to completion.
