Paris Saint-Germain play down talk over Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Alario

Paris Saint-Germain chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi has played down speculation that the French champions could move for River Plate's Lucas Alario and Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho in the January transfer window.

PSG's director of football Patrick Kluivert is currently looking for a striker to play backup to in-form Edinson Cavani and Alario was reported to be the lead candidate.

However, speaking with Infosport+ after PSG's 3-0 friendly win over Club Africain in Tunisia on Wednesday, Al-Khelaifi rejected the idea of the Argentina international moving to the Parc des Princes this month.

"We are speaking with the coach [Unai Emery] to find the player [to be Cavani's backup]," Al-Khelaifi said. "It will not be Alario, though, that is for sure."

Alario was not the only player Al-Khelaifi was questioned about -- the 43-year-old was also quizzed on a possible return to Paris for Liverpool defender Sakho.

The France international has fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and although he remains a popular figure at PSG, there are no talks underway for his return.

"I love Mamadou Sakho," Al-Khelaifi said. "The player but also the person. However, we have not spoken with him."

Kluivert said before the Club Africain clash that PSG remain in the hunt for more signings, notably a backup for Cavani, with a left-back and a centre-back also reported to be on the Dutchman's list of targets.
