West Ham mull bid for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson - sources

West Ham United are weighing up a move for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson to bolster their strikeforce in January, sources close to London club have told ESPN FC.

West Ham have made a new striker one of their top priorities when the transfer window reopens and sources have told ESPN FC that Wilson is their top target.

The Hammers have held a long-term interest in the 24-year-old and tried to sign him in the summer in a double deal including Matt Ritchie only to see their bids rejected.

They have been keeping tabs on Wilson since he scored a hat trick against them at Upton Park at the start of last season before suffering a cruciate knee injury, which kept him out of action for six months.

The Hammers are now ready to rekindle their interest as Slaven Bilic sees the striker as the man who can solve his side's goal-scoring problems and fire them to safety from the wrong end of the Premier League table.

The summer loan signings of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri have struggled for form since joining the club, while Andy Carroll has just recently returned from a three-month spell on the sidelnes and Diafra Sakho is out again after picking up another injury just two games into his comeback from a long-term back problem.

Bournemouth are unlikely to welcome any interest from West Ham in Wilson as the former Coventry man is Eddie Howe's first-choice striker at Dean Court.

Wilson, who signed a new four-year contract with Bournemouth in July, has scored five goals in 13 appearances for the Cherries this season.
