Juventus deal for Santos' Gabigol hinges on Barcelona approval

Juventus are seeking the capture of Santos forward Gabriel Barbosa, better known as Gabigol, but Barcelona have the final say in the transfer.

According to reports in Brazil, the Bianconeri have made a €20 million offer for the 19-year-old with the Serie A champions set to beat off rivals Chelsea and Arsenal for the forward's signature this summer.

Santos president Modesto Roma has told Brazil media that the club have accepted the bid, which now must be approved by the player, his agent and Barcelona, who have first right of refusal on the player because he was included in a clause on the 2013 Neymar transfer from Santos.

"We sent a letter to Wagner [Ribeiro, Gabigol's agent], Valdemir and Lindalva [his parents] with the terms," Santos president Modesto Roma told Brazil's Globoesporte. "If they think it's interesting, then we'll go to the next steps, including consulting Barcelona."

To further complicate negotiations, Juve would have to reach agreement with more than just the Brazilian club since Gabigol's registration is owned only 40 percent by Santos, 40 percent by the player and 20 percent by the Doyen Sports investment group.

Juventus have reportedly set a deadline of Aug. 1 for a response.

The coveted striker has scored five goals in 10 games of the current Brazilian Serie A season, having found the back of the net 10 times last season, and he is expected to be one of the star attractions for the hosts at the Olympic Games this summer.

Juve are still waiting to discover how much they are going to have to pay for Higuain.

The Napoli forward has a €94.7 million release clause in his contract, but the Turin-based club are trying to get a discount or trade some other players with their Serie A rivals, having already reached an agreement with the player, who has undergone a medical in Madrid.
