Hoffenheim's Eduardo Vargas would consider Sevilla under Jorge Sampaoli

Hoffenheim forward Eduardo Vargas has said he is keen on a new challenge and would be open to being reunited with new Sevilla boss and former Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli.

The 26-year-old finished as the top goal scorer in this summer's successful Copa America Centenario defence with six goals. He was also the joint top-scorer with four goals in Chile's shock Copa America win in 2015 with Sampaoli as coach.

That marked a contrast to his form at club level since he only managed to score two goals in 26 matches for Hoffenheim in his first season in the German Bundesliga.

The Bundesliga club signed Vargas last August from Napoli on a four-year contract, making him the first South American player to have played in four different leagues in Europe.

Vargas, however, admitted that he wants to leave and told a Chilean radio station that he has had another offer, although he admitted that it wasn't from Sevilla.

"About Sevilla I have been told nothing," he told Chile's Radio ADN. There is another offer, but for now I must continue with the German club [Hoffenheim] and begin the preseason. I want to find a new club, an improved offer."

He said he would consider returning to La Liga, where he spent part of the 2014 season when Napoli sent him on loan to Valencia.

"Yes, it would be nice," he said. "The coach knows me already and knows my playing style,"

Sampaoli took over from Unai Emery at Sevilla last month and media reports in Chile say the Spanish club are willing to over Vargas €5 million.

As well as winning the 2015 Copa America with Sampaoli, Vargas also worked with the new Sevilla boss at club level for a year when they were both at Universidad de Chile. Vargas finished as top scorer in the competition as his club won the 2011 Copa Sudamericana before leaving for Napoli.

After arriving from Universidad de Chile in January 2011, Vargas failed to establish himself in two half-seasons at Napoli. He went on to play loan spells at Brazilian side Gremio, Valencia and then last season at Premier League side Queens Park Rangers.

Hoffenheim's sporting director Alexander Rosen hinted this past spring that the club expected more from Vargas and would make a decision about his future based upon his Copa America performance.

"We are watching to see what Eduardo does during the [Copa America] tournament in the United States," Rosen said back in April. "We hope that Chile is successful because that would mean that he is capable of performing and having success. We hope his value changes."
