Manchester United target Paul Pogba's price tag is no surprise - Dimitri Payet

Dimitri Payet thinks that his France teammate Paul Pogba will be a major asset to whichever team he plays for regardless of how much he costs to buy.

Pogba, 23, has been tipped to make a €120 million switch from Juventus to his former club Manchester United.

Payet played alongside Pogba during France's run to the Euro 2016 final and the West Ham playmaker feels it is only natural that the midfielder would be attracting such interest.

"All I know is that Pogba is an exceptional player," Payet told RTL. "Exceptional players attract this kind of club so everything is possible.

"The problem today is that good players are expensive. Unfortunately that's the way the market is. We, the players, can do nothing about it."

When it was put to him that the €120m valuation had more to do with potential rather than current ability, Payet insisted that Pogba would prove his worth over time.

"I can't tell you if Pogba is worth that price today but all I know is that he's an exceptional player," Payet said.

"So regardless of the club that would buy Pogba and regardless of the price, it will certainly be an exceptional recruit for this team. And I'm sure that Paul can help this club to grow and to win trophies."

Payet is currently on holidays in the French overseas department of Reunion, the island in the Indian Ocean where he grew up. He will return to training with West Ham at the start of August.
