Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has refused to be drawn on a possible deal for Robin van Persie but told Sky Sports News he is "hopeful" the club can sign Saido Berahino.
Stoke are in the market for a striker this summer and the Daily Mail has reported that they have been offered the chance to sign Fenerbahce striker Van Persie.
Asked about the 32-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester United striker, Hughes said: "I've seen speculation.
"There's going to be a lot of those stories in fairness. Some will have a little bit of substance and some won't. It's up to you guys to find out which ones are which.
"We're looking to address key areas in the team that we feel we can improve on and if those players become available then we're interested."

Hughes did confirm that Stoke have made an offer for West Bromwich Albion striker Berahino, with Sky Sports reporting that they have made a £20 million offer.
"He's a player at another club so I don't really want to comment too much but it's fair to say we've put bids in," Hughes said. "As we stand those haven't been accepted yet but we're still hopeful on that one."
Berahino, 22, has one year remaining on his current deal at The Hawthorns and has turned down a new four-year contract.
