Besiktas want decision from Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez

Besiktas president Fikret Orman is still waiting to hear back from Mario Gomez as he hopes to welcome him back to the Turkish champions next season.

Germany international Gomez excelled on a season-long loan from Fiorentina last term, scoring 26 goals in their successful title bid.

The 31-year-old still has a year left to run on his contract in Florence, however, and his future remains uncertain as he enjoys a post-Euro 2016 holiday.

Orman would welcome him back to Besiktas with open arms, and the Viola do not appear keen on keeping him after he failed to make an impact in two seasons with them, but Besiktas' president says the deadline for Gomez to make a decision is approaching.

"Gomez is a player we like," he told Turkish media. "Fiorentina have not caused us any problems. We're trying to wrap things up, but time is pressing."

He said Gomez, who scored 14 goals in 47 games for Fiorentina, must soon make a decision, saying Besiktas "are not going to wait forever."

Gomez is also reported to be attracting attention from clubs in the Bundesliga, with Wolfsburg apparently considering him as an alternative to Juventus' Simone Zaza.

His form last season earned him a place in the Germany squad for Euro 2016 after he had lost consideration from Germany coach Joachim Low during his two years in Florence, but the striker suffered a tournament-ending hamstring injury at the quarterfinal stage.

Fiorentina's general manager Pantaleo Corvino recently admitted that offloading a striker is one of his priorities and Gomez, who is reported to be the club's biggest earner, is the main candidate to leave this summer.
