Bayern Munich defender Medhi Benatia arrives for Juventus medical

Medhi Benatia arrived in Turin on Thursday to undergo a medical prior to completing a move from Bayern Munich to Juventus, the Italian club have confirmed.

The former Roma defender is set to become Juve's third summer signing, after Dani Alves and Miralem Pjanic, in what is likely to be a season-long loan deal with an option to make the move permanent next summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, that option would become obligatory should the Morocco international make a certain number of appearances for the Bianconeri this season.

Benatia played just 14 times for Bayern last season as his campaign was disrupted by injuries. Juve are keen on adding him to an already formidable defence which includes Italy trio Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli, plus Daniele Rugani.

However, the departure of Martin Caceres this summer has led to Juve seeking extra cover at the back. Turin-based sports daily Tuttosport is also reporting that Benatia should sign by the weekend to enable him to join his new teammates on their preseason tour of Australia and China from Sunday.

Benatia, 29, made a total of 113 appearances in Serie A with Roma and Udinese before moving to Bayern two years ago. He has won back-to-back Bundesliga titles and one DFB Pokal in Germany.
