Saido Berahino turns down contract offer from West Brom - sources

Saido Berahino has rejected the offer of a new contract from West Bromwich Albion, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Berahino, 22, has long been linked with an exit from West Brom, with Tottenham Hotspur seeing several offers rejected for the former England under-21 international last summer.

The Baggies' refusal to agree a deal with Tottenham led to Berahino handing in a transfer request on deadline day, but he has since repaired the breakdown in relations at the Hawthorns.

West Brom managed to keep hold of Berahino in the January transfer window, and with the striker now entering the final year of his contract, they were hoping to secure his services by offering him a four-year extension that would make him the highest-paid player at the club.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that Berahino has turned that offer down, meaning West Brom may be forced to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him next year for nothing.

A source told ESPN FC in May that Watford were keen on signing the player, while Stoke City and Crystal Palace have also been credited with an interest.
