River Plate's Lucas Alario plays down Tottenham reports

River Plate forward Lucas Alario has played down reports linking him to Tottenham Hotspur after his agent claimed he will join the North London club if they meet his release clause.

Alario, 23, made 26 appearances for Buenos Aires giants River Plate last season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.

Reports in Argentina claim Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign his fellow Argentine to provide competition for Harry Kane, last season's Premier League top scorer and Spurs' only senior centre-forward.

The agent of the former Colon player says there is an offer from Serie A outfit Genoa, and claims Alario could move to White Hart Lane if his reported €15 million release clause is met.

"Today Alario is at River. There was only one proposal, from Genoa, and interest of Tottenham. If Tottenham pays the clause, Alario is going," Alario's representative is quoted as saying by La Pagina Millonaria.

When quizzed by Argentinian newspaper Ole, Alario admitted it was his "dream" to play in Europe, but said: "My representative did not say anything concrete on the subject and now I think of River, to get back on the pitch and give back everything this club gave me.

"Like every player, I dream to play in Europe at some point in my career. For that first I have to make things right at River, to keep growing and learning."
