Hoffenheim sign Sandro Wagner from Darmstadt

Hoffenheim have announced the signing of Sandro Wagner from Bundesliga rivals Darmstadt.

Former Germany under-21 striker Wagner, 28, had been linked with Bundesliga clubs Hamburg and Cologne as well as Burnley and Hull City.

"I have had a great feeling here from the start, it was my absolute dream to move here," Wagner, who won the 2009 Under-21 European Championship, said.

He said he had not been tempted by a potential move to England, adding: "As a German, if you have the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga, you should definitely not go to the Premier League. We have a great league and great stadiums."

Wagner played a standout season for Darmstadt with his 14 goals in 32 games securing the club's top-flight status. He had previously hit seven goals in 85 league games for Hertha Berlin, Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.

Wagner has signed a three-year deal and kicker reports that Hoffenheim have paid a €2.9 million transfer fee excluding bonuses.

"We have signed a strong and charismatic player in Wagner," Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen said, with coach Julian Nagelsmann adding that the striker is "strong in the air and in the tackle" and praising his finishing.
