Manchester United improve offer for Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Dortmund CEO

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has moved closer to sealing a move to Manchester United, with a decision set to be made at the weekend, after a "significantly improved" offer from the Premier League outfit was confirmed by the player's club Borussia Dortmund.

Mkhitaryan, 27, has a year left on his Dortmund contract and club sources have told ESPN FC that United have been in talks with the German side regarding a transfer.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told WAZ: "We at some stage need to make a final assessment, and since we begin preseason on Monday, we will do it at the weekend.

"We've got another situation now. Manchester United have significantly improved their offer. The management will make a decision. At the weekend, definitely."

The Armenia international joined Dortmund from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 for a fee of €27.5 million.

Mkhitaryan would become United manager Jose Mourinho's second signing for the club since taking charge, having already recruited defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal.

A successful deal would continue the departures from Dortmund who have already lost Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich and Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City.
