Atletico Madrid chief Enrique Cerezo confirms Sime Vrsaljko medical

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed that Croatia right-back Sime Vrsaljko has passed a medical ahead of a transfer to the La Liga club.

Atletico are interested in signing current Sassuolo player Vrsaljko to act as competition for current first choice right-back Juanfran Torres, with a fee of between €15 and €18 million mentioned in regular speculation in the local press.

Serie A sides Napoli, Juventus and Napoli are also thought to be interested in the former Dinamo Zagreb and Genoa defender, but Vrsaljko himself said recently from Croatia's camp at the Euros that his preference this summer was a move to the Estadio Vicente Calderon club.

The Atletico Madrid chief said in AS that a pre-transfer medical examination had taken place in France and joked that he would now have to learn how to pronounce the new signing's name.

"Yesterday they did the medical and I imagine he [Vrsaljko] will be ready to come and play with us next season," Cerezo said. "I will have to learn how to say his name, as I don't yet speak Croatian."

With Croatia, Vrsaljko is an understudy for national captain Darijo Srna, although he showed his versatility by coming in to play at left-back in their 2-1 win over Spain in the final round of Group D games.
