Radamel Falcao returns to Monaco for 'stress test' after Chelsea exit

Radamel Falcao has returned to Monaco for medical evaluation after his disappointing season-long loan spell at Chelsea came to an end.

On their official Instagram account, Monaco posted a picture of the 30-year-old striker undergoing a stress test in a bid to assess his physical condition after a year at Stamford Bridge plagued by form and fitness issues.

"Let's go for training. A smiling stress test for El Tigre," the message alongside the post read.

Acquired on a temporary basis as a backup for Diego Costa last summer, Falcao made just 12 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea during the 2015-16 season, and featured just once after picking up what interim manager Guus Hiddink described as a "very serious" thigh injury in training in December.

Monaco considered recalling Falcao in January, but decided to let him continue his lengthy rehabilitation at Stamford Bridge after subjecting him to a medical evaluation.

In March, the Colombia striker also revealed that he turned down two offers from Chinese Super League clubs to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea.

Falcao ruptured his anterior cruciate knee ligament in January 2013 and has since failed to recapture the form that led him to be regarded as the deadliest striker in world football, though he insisted in an interview with Colombian newspaper El Tiempo in March that he is over the worst of his fitness problems.

A lack of first-team opportunities for Chelsea also saw Falcao omitted from Jose Pekerman's Colombia squad for this summer's Copa America Centenario.
