Chelsea extend Charly Musonda's loan at Real Betis

Charly Musonda will spend another season on loan at Real Betis after impressing in La Liga, Chelsea have confirmed.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder left Stamford Bridge for Betis at the end of January, having originally resisted a loan move in a bid to fight for a first-team place at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and interim successor Guus Hiddink.

However, since then Musonda has caught the eye with his pace, creativity and dribbling skill in Spain, making 16 appearances as Betis secured their La Liga survival, and in April club president Angel Haro confirmed he would like to keep the Belgian at Estadio Benito Villamarin next season.

Chelsea have now confirmed that Musonda will continue his development at Betis, where he will be managed by former Blues star Gus Poyet, who was appointed on a two-year contract to succeed interim boss Juan Merino in May.

Musonda, a fluent Spanish speaker despite his Belgian heritage, joined Chelsea along with older brothers Lamisha and Tika from Anderlecht in June 2012 and went on to win the under-21 Premier League, the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League with the Blues' academy. He is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents of his age in Europe.
