Wolfsburg seal deal for Cologne midfielder Yannick Gerhardt

Wolfsburg have signed Cologne midfielder Yannick Gerhardt on a five-year contract.

Gerhardt, 22, made his under-21 debut for Germany last season and played 29 times for Cologne as they finished ninth in the Bundesliga.

"Yannick is a young player with great potential," Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club's official website.

"He has already demonstrated with Cologne he has the quality to set the tone in the Bundesliga. We are pleased that we were able to convince a player of his talent our way."

Gerhardt is also keen to get started under coach Dieter Hecking as he looks to make a big impact at the club.

"Klaus Allofs and Dieter Hecking have convinced me that Wolfsburg offers me the best chance to develop myself," he said.

"I want to help the team break into the top places in the Bundesliga next season and establish itself there permanently."
