Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois expects to stay at Stamford Bridge

Thibaut Courtois has reiterated that he will be a Chelsea player next season "if nothing major happens," despite persistent speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid.

Chelsea will be without European football altogether under incoming first team head coach Antonio Conte next season, having endured the worst campaign of the Roman Abramovich era and finishing 10th in the Premier League.

This drastic regression has led to reports that key players such as Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Courtois could be tempted to push for moves elsewhere this summer, with Real Madrid reported to harbour significant interest in signing the Belgium goalkeeper.

But earlier this month Courtois insisted that he is "100 percent" sure of staying at Chelsea, and speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero as he prepares for Euro 2016, the 24-year-old said he is looking forward to helping Chelsea in their attempt to regain the Premier League title next season.

Asked what the transfer window could hold for him, Courtois replied: "Nothing. I am at Chelsea. We are going to have a new coach and I have three years left on my contract. If nothing major happens I will stay at Chelsea.

"I know that in football, things happen fast, but in theory, my next season is with Chelsea. I hope we can have a better year and win the Premier League again. It's going to be very tough next season. All the teams will be adding new talent and it is going to be a great season, but we are going to come back strong.

"After winning the league last year by something like 10 points and playing well, this season it has been much less [successful]. I also injured my knee and was out for three months, then I came back and as a team we weren't playing well and our performance took a hit compared to last year.

"It was a year in which sometimes we could have won a match, but we lost because of silly goals or because we couldn't score a goal. We finished in 10th position and that is not good for a club like Chelsea."

Saturday's Champions League final in Milan sees Real Madrid bidding to win their 11th European crown against bitter rivals Atletico Madrid. Courtois played for Atletico the last time the two clubs met in the same fixture in Lisbon two years ago, and believes his former club will present a formidable challenge.

"Madrid didn't gel together easily, but since Zidane has taken over the team they have improved greatly," Courtois added. "Atleti is a tough team to play against. Madrid will attack a bit more, but Atleti will not relent. Since Simeone has come in, they always fight to the end.

"I remember his words from two years ago, that you have to believe you are going to win. They almost won the Double this season.

"For what I learned with Atletico I am always grateful. I was 19 when I started with them, they gave me every opportunity and I grew as a goalkeeper. I left as one of the best in the world. Diego taught me that."
