Miroslav Klose targeted by Eintracht Frankfurt after Lazio exit

Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed their interest in former Germany international Miroslav Klose, who is available on a free transfer this summer.

Klose, who is Germany's all-time top goal scorer, ended his five-year stint at Lazio on a high when netting his 64th goal for the Biancocelesti in his last match just over a week ago against Fiorentina.

The former Bayern Munich attacker's goal from the spot equalled the club's best haul by a foreign player, Macedonia forward Goran Pandev.

Klose said postmatch that he was not offered the chance to stay at Lazio, explaining: "They never spoke to me. I can't do everything by myself. It's not as if I decided to leave."

The former Germany international, however, did not announce his retirement from football and in recent weeks has been linked with a return to Bundesliga, where he has scored 121 goals in 307 matches for Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Sky following the successful relegation/promotion playoffs against Nurnberg, Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubener confirmed the Bundesliga side's interest in Klose.

"Maybe I ignited this discussion a bit, because I think he's a fantastic player. His personality, his appearance," Hubner said. "It would be a dream if such a player would join us."

But Hubner, a former Bundesliga player at Klose's first club Kaiserslautern, added that the 37-year-old's age as well as his financial demands could be a problem.

He said: "On the one hand, we need to be careful regarding his fitness. Can he still do it in Bundesliga? And on the other hand the question whether we can do it financially."
