Wolfsburg's Luiz Gustavo open to Chinese Super League switch

Wolfsburg midfielder Luiz Gustavo has talked up a possible transfer to China amid links with Luiz Felipe Scolari's Guangzhou Evergrande.

Brazil international Luiz Gustavo, who joined Wolfsburg from Bayern Munich in 2013, is under contract at the Volkswagen Arena until 2018 but is reported to have a release clause worth around €25 million.

The 28-year-old is reported to be a target for Guangzhou Evergrande, who are managed by his former Brazil coach Scolari, and he has suggested he could become the latest big name to move to the Chinese Super League.

Asked about a potential transfer to the Chinese club, who already boast stars including Paulinho and Jackson Martinez, he told kicker: "Everything's possible these days.

"Many good players made the switch to the Chinese league recently, and they will get even more aggressive.

"You always have to be open but, like I said, you can only make a decision if something's concrete."

Luiz Gustavo scored at the weekend as Wolfsburg secured a 1-0 victory over Hamburg at the weekend, but that was the club's first win since March 5 and Die Wolfe, who won the DFB Pokal last season as well as finishing second in the league, will not play in Europe next season.

Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking has previously said he is confident of keeping the midfielder, who won the 2013 Treble with Bayern, but the former Arsenal target stressed that he is keeping his options open.

When asked about his plans beyond the summer, Luiz Gustavo said: "I don't know. In football, anything can happen. If something comes up, I'll have to consider what I do. Right now, I am leaving everything open."

He has made 218 Bundesliga appearances for Hoffenheim, Bayern and Wolfsburg since arriving in Germany from Corinthians Alagoano in 2007.
