Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster: Chelsea link a 'compliment'

Fraser Forster admits he is flattered by reports linking him with a summer move to Chelsea, but the Southampton goalkeeper insists he remains focused on finishing the season well and representing England at Euro 2016.

Speculation is rife that Asmir Begovic will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season in search of regular first-team football, while No.1 Thibaut Courtois has refused to rule out the possibility of a summer exit amid reports that he would consider a return to Spain with Real Madrid.

If either man leaves, Chelsea will be in the market for a new goalkeeper and Forster -- who has a contract at Southampton that runs until 2018 and hopes to push Joe Hart for the England No.1 spot at Euro 2016 -- says he is pleased to be the subject of reported interest from Stamford Bridge.

"I think it is a compliment in many ways because if you are being linked with teams then you are obviously doing the right things," the England international told Sky Sports when asked about the Chelsea reports.

"I have two years left on my contract at Southampton and I have loved my time here. I can't thank the club enough for the way they have stood by me when I was injured."

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland's season-ending injury suffered during England's 3-2 friendly win over Germany has left Forster as Hart's only credible rival to start in goal at Euro 2016, and the Southampton man hopes that he can perform well enough to give Roy Hodgson a decision to make.

"I'm just concentrating on the day-to-day business here at the club and then hopefully I can have a good summer with England," Forster added.

"Everyone knows that Joe is the No, 1 and he deserves that. He is a top keeper but that's the challenge for the rest of us: to push him as hard as we can and try and put pressure on him.

"That has got to be the goal for me, to keep working as hard as I can and go into the summer in the best possible form."
