Fabian Delph set for move as Man City trigger release clause at Villa - reports

Fabian Delph is set to leave Aston Villa to sign with Manchester City on Saturday, according to multiple reports.

The BBC and British newspapers reported that City activated the £8 million buyout clause in Delph's contract to bring him to the Etihad Stadium next season, with personal terms also agreed.

Delph, 25, only signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal at Villa six months ago.

He helped Villa stay in the Premier League last season, making 28 league appearances, and led his team to the FA Cup final.

Sources told ESPN FC last week that City were targeting the Aston Villa captain, as boss Manuel Pellegrini is in the market for midfield reinforcements after seeing Frank Lampard and James Milner depart the Etihad this summer.

Former Leeds youngster Delph has come on City's radar after impressing for Villa and England in the last 12 months.

Delph was handed the club captaincy by Tim Sherwood when he took over as manager.

Losing Delph will come as a major blow to Villa, who brought in a replacement later on Friday with the signing Senegal international midfielder Idrissa Gueye from Lille.
