West Ham closing on Angelo Ogbonna amid Everton interest - sources

West Ham United are leading Everton in the race to sign Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna, sources have told ESPN FC.

Both Premier League clubs have made Ogbonna one of their top targets as they look to bolster their defensive options this summer.

Ogbonna, who was an unused substitute in Juventus' Champions League final defeat to Barcelona, has seen his first-team opportunities limited since joining the club from Torino in 2013.

The 27-year-old has made just 32 starts in Serie A for Juventus in the last two seasons and has been unable to dislodge the central defensive pairing of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

Juventus are willing to cash-in on the Italy international and both West Ham and Everton have informed Juventus of their interest.

West Ham officials spent part of last week in Italy in a bid to try and agree a deal with reports claiming Ogbonna could travel to London for further talks this week.

Everton are still in the hunt for Ogbonna but West Ham are hopeful of making him their fifth signing of the summer.
