Everton sign Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona for €6 million.

Deulofeu, who spent the 2013-14 season on loan at Goodison Park, has agreed a three-year contract, with an option for a further season, and will join the Premier League club on July 1.

The winger made 29 appearances during his first spell at Everton and manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website: "Gerard needs no introduction to anyone here at Everton. We are all well aware of his incredible footballing talent."

"We got to know him really well from his loan period, not only as such a talented player but also his great character. He will be a fantastic asset to our club."

Deulofeu had returned to Barcelona after his previous spell at Everton expecting to play a part in Luis Enrique's first-team squad, but he was told he was not required and spent last season on loan at Sevilla.

Martinez said he thought the 21-year-old would have improved for the experience he had with Europa League winners Sevilla, where he made 28 appearances.

"We are getting an even more mature player now than he was a couple of seasons ago and a player who considers Everton as home," he said.

"This is why we are incredibly excited to have him back here on a permanent basis and to encourage him to grow, develop and mature his enormous talent."

Everton have already signed Tom Cleverley on a free transfer from Manchester United this summer and Martinez added: "It was always our intention to work extremely hard behind the scenes to get some really good business done early on during the transfer window.

"Our objective was to secure Tom and Gerard as quickly as we could and I'm really pleased this is exactly what we've done.

"Having done this now, we will have more time over the remainder of the window to carry on strengthening our squad, which is already strong, and we will use this time ahead of us well."

Barcelona also confirmed the transfer and revealed they had included a buy-back clause in the agreement.

A statement on the European champions' official website read: "FC Barcelona and Everton FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Gerard Deulofeu.

"The contract includes a release clause if Barcelona make an offer to Everton meeting certain requirements. FC Barcelona also have a right of first refusal if Everton decide to sell the player.

"FC Barcelona's management commission approved the transfer after receiving a positive report from the club's technical committee."

Everton said the buy-back clause only applied during the first two years.
