Sevilla to appeal against punishment imposed after chants vs. Real Madrid

Sevilla have been ordered to close part of their stadium for one La Liga match after obscene chants were directed at Real Madrid and their captain Sergio Ramos by elements of the crowd at a match in January.

The club announced that it had been informed by the competition committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that the punishment had been imposed following the incidents in their 2-1 win at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Former Sevilla star Ramos has had a volatile relationship with the club's supporters since leaving for Madrid in 2005.

He complained that a section of Sevilla fans had "insulted me from the first minute" of the 3-3 Copa del Rey draw three days before the league game.

Sevilla were punished with a partial stadium ban after the Copa match, a sanction the club has appealed against.

Officials said they would also appeal against the latest ruling and "will turn to the Spanish government's sporting tribunal if necessary."

Sevilla are third in La Liga and host Sporting Gijon on Sunday.
