Zac Attwood produced a late winner as Hastings battled back from a goal down to dump out Bishop's Stortford 2-1 and reach the FA Cup second round.
Player/manager Sean Ray had levelled for Hastings in the second half after Matt Johnson had earlier given Bishop's Stortford a seventh-minute lead.
Bishop's Stortford had the first chance of the game after three minutes as former Liverpool trainee Ricky Sappleton picked out Danny Green with a cross, the latter headed back across goal for Steve Cawley who could only poke wide of the target.
Just four minutes later, Green, in his second spell at Bishop's Stortford after rejoining from Dagenham on Monday, fed a pass to Sappleton who shaped to shoot before finding Johnson, whose effort crept into the bottom corner of the net.
Bradley Goldberg - hunting his seventh goal in this season's FA Cup - nearly brought Hastings level after 21 minutes but his effort was parried away by goalkeeper Luke Chambers.
The chances continued to come for Hastings but it was the hosts who should have doubled their lead early in the second half, only for Sappleton to put his header wide from Jessie Waller Lassen's cross.
Hastings began to find a foothold in the game as Goldberg saw his effort tipped around the post after 68 minutes, and it was left to Ray to volley home at the back post from a corner to level matters.
The visitors were now the stronger side and they had the last laugh as Attwood reacted quickest to tap in after Chambers failed to hold Goldberg's long-range effort.
