Alan Trouten scored three minutes from time to make it five goals in as many matches.as Brechin beat Arbroath 1-0.
The sides were separated only by goal difference ahead of kick-off and there was nothing between them until the in-form midfielder struck in the 87th minute.
Graham Bayne went the closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half but his header was well held by visiting goalkeeper Michael Andrews.
Andrews was called into action again in the 62nd minute as he tipped away Euan Smith's effort for a corner.
David McKenna headed wide for City with seven minutes left, but Ray McKinnon's men secured the points soon after.
Gary Fusco found Trouten just inside the area and he fired home to secure a fifth win in six matches.
