John Gemmell scored the only goal of the game on his return from injury as Stenhousemuir beat Arbroath 1-0.
The striker, who took his tally to nine goals from 10 league games, had missed three months with an ankle injury.
And he popped up on the stroke of half-time with a thumping finish from the edge of the area.
Prior to that Stewart Kean had hit the post for the home side.
In the second half Callum Reidford saved well from Steven Doris' volley, while Gemmell forced a save from Scott Morrison at the other end.
Stuart Malcolm went close to an equaliser with a header but Reidford held well and Stenny saw it through for the three points.
