Timo Gebhart scored the only goal of the game as Nurnberg beat Wolfsburg to end a six-match winless streak and found the net for the first time since late September.
Gebhart's goal in the 76th minute secured Nurnberg their first victory at home this season and ended a 453-minute scoreless stretch dating back to September 26.
Wolfsburg took a step back after two straight victories under interim coach Lorenz Kostner, remaining lodged in the bottom three with eight points.
Nurnberg had the first scoring opportunity after 12 minutes.
Tomas Pekhart allowed Wolfsburg defender Simon Kjaer race by him before getting his shot away, but goalkeeper Diego Benaglio was able to deflect Pekhart's shot over the frame of the goal.
The rest of the first half was sorely lacking in highlights in a very low-key encounter.
The hosts created a little more in the second half and went close five minutes after the restart as Timmy Simons' header went wide. The Belgian was again close five minutes later but nodded a cross from Hiroshi Kiyotake the wrong side of the post.
Kiyotake had another fine cross after 62 minutes but this time Gebhart's attempt was off target.
Gebhart finally put the hosts on the scoreboard - snapping the long drought - with a goal in the 14 minutes from time.
Timothy Chandler crossed from the right side and Gebhart flew in for a header from six yards out.
Wolfsburg were a total disappointment and even the goal failed to jolt them into life.
Indeed instead of pushing for an equaliser it was Nurnberg who were closer to scoring a second goal.
Gebhart worked past two defenders and passed to Markus Feulner, whose shot went just wide in the 87th minute.
