Freiburg picked up a deserved victory in Hannover and became only the second team to win in the Bundesliga at the Niedersachsenstadion in over a year.
Jonathan Schmid gave Christian Streich's side the lead in the 11th minute only for Mohammed Abdellaoue to level from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute.
Jan Rosenthal earned Freiburg all three points with his goal in the 56th minute as Hannover could not find an answer for a second time.
Hannover came into the game off the back of a 4-2 win over Stuttgart last weekend, but maybe that victory led to them taking their next Baden-Wurttemberg opponent a little too lightly.
Daniel Caligiuri got past Lars Stindl and Hiroki Sakai in the 11th minute with his low cross finding its way past two more Hannover defenders on its way through to Schmid, who was presented with an open goal which he was not going to miss from eight yards.
Freiburg continued to display a superiority, but a handball decision against Caligiuri inside the penalty area presented the hosts with a route back into the game.
Abdellaoue, who had scored from the spot a week ago, made no mistake again to bring Hannover level in the 33d minute.
Julian Schuster missed the chance to put Freiburg ahead again just before half time when he blazed a shot over the crossbar with only Ron-Robert Zieler to beat.
Freiburg continued to look the better side in the second half and Ron-Robert Zieler made two great saves to prevent Caligiuri from giving the visitors the lead again in the 50th minute.
There was nothing he could do to prevent Rosenthal from doing just that six minutes later, though, as the Freiburg midfielder started and finished the move which led to his side moving up to ninth in the Bundesliga thanks to a thoroughly deserved away day victory.
