Danny Stevens first goal of the season enabled Torquay United to claim their first back-to-back League Two wins since March as they ran out 1-0 victory over Morecambe.
A superb pass down the left from Billy Bodin put Stevens in down the flank and he placed a measured low sidefoot past diving Shrimps keeper Barry Roche and in off the far post.
It was a sparkling moment in a generally dour encounter under the sun on the south coast.
United looked nothing like the side who had made a stirring comeback to beat leaders Gillingham at Plainmoor on Tuesday although Bodin should have done better on 73 minutes when he was put through one-on-one with keeper Roche by target man Rene Howe. Bodin opted to chip Roche, who made a top save.
In stoppage time Roche went up for two corner kicks and twice got his head to the deliveries. The first was cleared by home skipper Lee Mansell and the second Roche header flew just over the bar.
The Shrimps best chances fell to striker Lewis Allesandra who forced a superb diving save out of Michael Poke in the 39th minute and then went close with a 20-yard rocket three minutes later.
Torquay are still unbeaten in the League at home with five wins that has sent them soaring up the table.
