Jabo Ibehre struck twice on his Colchester debut to help them to a 3-1 win over Hartlepool as Joe Dunne made a winning start to life as their new manager.
Pools took a fifth-minute lead through Craig Lynch, who pounced on Craig Eastmond's error before advancing towards goal and planting a shot past Colchester goalkeeper Mark Cousins.
Steve Howard went close for Pools and Michael Rose nodded Antony Sweeney's header off the goalline, before visiting goalkeeper Scott Flinders tipped over Anthony Wordsworth's close-range effort.
Colchester equalised six minutes before the break through Gavin Massey, who controlled well before firing past Flinders from debutant Sanchez Watt's excellent defence-splitting pass.
The U's turned the game around less than four minutes later when Ibehre capitalised on Peter Hartley's mistake midway inside his own half to slot calmly past Flinders.
Flinders denied both Ibehre and Marcus Bean early in the second half, but Ibehre made it 3-1 just after the hour when he controlled Rose's well-delivered cross before stabbing home from a yard out to seal Colchester's first win of the season.
