Montpellier 2-3 Evian Thonon Gaillard

Reigning champions Montpellier's atrocious start to the Ligue 1 season continued as Saber Khelifa and Stephan Andersen earned Evian a shock win at the Stade De La Mosson.

Marco Estrada and Souleymane Camara overhauled Khelifa's opener to give the hosts a 2-1 half-time lead and raise hopes of only a third win in eight league games this season.

But Khelifa equalised and, after goalkeeper Andersen kept Evian on terms with a string of excellent saves, the Tunisia striker then completed his hat-trick two minutes from the end to inflict a fourth defeat on Rene Girard's men.

Both teams had a sight of goal in the opening 10 minutes, Karim Ait Fana testing Andersen before Yannick Sagbo drew a good save from Geoffrey Jourdren.

Jourdren had no answer, though, when Sagbo seized possession and set up Khelifa to finish with the inside of his right foot shortly before the half-hour mark.

Estrada's equaliser in the 36th minute came from a left-wing free-kick 35 yards out which curled across goal and into the far corner without a touch from anybody in the penalty area.

And there was also a touch of fortune about Camara's goal four minutes before half-time, with the officials failing to spot the midfielder straying into an offside position before he powerfully headed home Ait Fana's cross.

Montpellier had two chances to extend their lead, Andersen denying Estrada before Younes Belhanda, who had created that chance, curled a superb free-kick against the crossbar with the Denmark keeper beaten.

And Evian made full use of that reprieve as Cedric Barbosa set up Khelifa on the hour and he went past Daniel Congre before firing the ball into the top corner.

Montpellier sought a winner and Congre's header was saved by Andersen, who then made a stunning reflex save from Belhanda's volley.

Gaetan Charbonnier went even closer from Belhanda's cross, Andersen diverting the ball on to the crossbar.

And Andersen's heroics were rewarded with a late winner for his side as Khelifa again bemused Congre before surging into the box and curling the ball past Jourdren to leave the home fans and Girard in despair.
