Marseille moved level on points with Paris St Germain as brothers Andre and Jordan Ayew guided them to a 2-0 victory at Ajaccio.
Ligue 1 leaders PSG had gone down to a surprise home defeat by St Etienne yesterday and Marseille took full advantage today although the capital side still have a better goal difference.
However, they could well be joined later on 22 points with Toulouse playing this evening although Marseille will be in pole position with a game in hand on both sides.
For Ajaccio it was a first home defeat of the season and it was the hosts who had the first attack on goal when Chahir Belghazouani's shot was on target but comfortably saved by Steve Mandanda.
Home goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa returned the compliment, gathering Benoit Cheyrou's effort.
Ajaccio then had two quickfire efforts on goal, Mandanda having to repel Ricardo Faty's shot with his right foot and a minute later the keeper was tested again.
Carl Medjani fired in a powerful shot from 20 yards which bounced in front of Mandanda, forcing him into an awkward save.
Marseille then went ahead nine minutes into the second half, Cheyrou's shot from outside the area was blocked by Yoann Poulard.
Charles Kabore nodded the ball back into the area, Andre Ayew getting there first and heading beyond Ochoa.
The hosts twice came close to equalising.
Adrian Mutu bent a free-kick around the wall which was on target until Mandanda dived down to his right to push the ball away.
Mutu then turned provider, his free-kick finding Mehdi Mostefa but his header went over the bar with Mandanda stranded.
Mathieu Valbuena's dipping shot was tipped over the bar by Ochoa and with just three minutes left Marseille sealed victory.
Valbuena passed to Jordan Ayew who then drilled home from 12 yards into the bottom left-hand corner.
