Larsen Toure struck twice as Brest inflicted yet another away defeat on 10-man Bastia.
Toure opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time and Brest further strengthened their hold on the match when Bastia lost Francois Marque to a red card five minutes into the second half.
It took Brest just 11 minutes to make their numerical advantage count, Eden Ben Basat making it 2-0 from the penalty spot, before Toure notched his second in the 67th minute to complete the scoring.
The victory lifts Brest up to mid-table on 14 points, one more than Bastia who have now lost all seven of their away games in Ligue 1 this season.
Brest had the first opportunity of the match with Benoit Lesoimier seeing his second-minute effort deflected away by Bastia goalkeeper Landry Bonnefoi, but the visitors then fashioned two decent openings of their own.
Frederic Hantz's side have only netted three times on their travels this season but they came close to another in the fifth minute when Anthony Modeste was denied by home goalkeeper Alexis Thebaux.
Then, in the 25th minute, Bernard Mendy almost headed into his own net from a Bastia corner as Brest survived another let-off.
It was the hosts who did manage to take the lead though, and it came at a crushing time for Bastia with the first half almost over.
Kamel Chafni sent over a corner which Toure was able to head home, thanks in part to some sloppiness from visiting duo Bonnefoi and Julien Sable.
The second half was pretty much one-way traffic in favour of Brest.
The hosts threatened a second immediately after the break through Mario Licka before Bastia lost Marque to a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Ben Basat.
Another unsuccessful challenge on Ben Basat, this time by Matthieu Sans, then saw Brest awarded a penalty, which the Isreal international tucked home as Bonnefoi dived the wrong way.
A superb header from Toure wrapped up the win six minutes later.
