Lille 5-0 Lorient
Salomon Kalou bagged a brace as Lille continued their recent good form by running riot at home to Lorient.
Former Chelsea striker Kalou scored twice - in between Dimitri Payet's strike and Lucas Digne's penalty - as Lille astonishingly opened up a four-goal lead inside 33 minutes.
Ronny Rodelin sealed a comfortable success for the hosts in a second half where they took their foot off the pedal safe in the knowledge that victory was safe.
Rudi Garcia's side have now won four of their last five games and could be an outside pick to claim the final Champions League spot as they are currently just four points behind St Etienne.
They undoubtedly proved their credentials tonight, with Kalou starting the rout as early as the second minute.
The Ivorian latched on to Franck Beria's crossfield ball before volleying in between Lorient goalkeeper Fabien Audard's legs.
Lille were two goals to the good in the seventh minute when Payet tapped in after Audard had palmed Rodelin's 25-yard strike into his path.
Clearly stung into action, the visitors nearly reduced the deficit but Jeremie Aliadiere saw his header magnificently saved by Lille goalkeeper Steeve Elana.
It was a crucial miss and one they were made to pay for as Lille scored two goals in as many minutes just after the half hour to seal Lorient's fate.
First, Digne sent Audard the wrong way from the penalty spot after Lorient captain Bruno Ecuele Manga had fouled Payet in the area.
Then Kalou grabbed his second of the evening in a rather fortuitous manner, the ball coming off his thigh and into the net after Payet had seen his strike come crashing off the post.
Lorient refused to roll over and shortly after the interval Elana had to keep out another Aliadiere header.
But Rodelin then added gloss to the scoreline in the 52nd minute, nodding in after Kalou's fierce volley came cannoning back off the crossbar.
And it nearly got worse for Lorient, with Audard fantastically keeping out Payet's free-kick from just outside the area.
Lille kept pressing but victory was guaranteed and they loosened their stranglehold as the game petered out to its inevitable conclusion.
Aliadiere nearly grabbed a late consolation for the shell-shocked visitors, but was once again denied, this time by Elena's legs.
