Real Madrid set record with 13 players named in FIFPro World 11 nominations

Real Madrid lead the nominations for FIFPro's World 11, with 13 players named among the 55 footballers in contention for a place in the line-up.

FIFPro and its affiliated player associations polled 25,000 professional footballers to put together a long list of names that will eventually be shortened to name a side consisting of a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers.

The 2016 World 11 featured five Madrid players and four from Barcelona, but Los Blancos' tally of 13 named in the 55-man list is a record.

Harry Kane and Gareth Bale are the only British players included.

Tottenham and England striker Kane has enjoyed a fine 2017, scoring 34 times in all competitions for club and country, while Bale won the Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid.

Despite the lack of British talent on the list, a total of 12 Premier League players made the cut, including six Manchester United players.

The final 11 will be announced at a ceremony in London on Oct. 23.

The full line up for 2016 was: Manuel Neuer, Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Andres Iniesta, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo.
