Real Madrid's Marco Asensio set for 'great things' - Spain teammate

Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio is on the right path to becoming a world class player, according to Spain under-21 teammate Dani Ceballos.

Asensio, who came on as a substitute and scored in Madrid's 4-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League final, last week scored a hat trick for Spain in their 5-0 win over Macedonia at the European Under-21 Championship.

"Half of Europe was fascinated by his performance against Macedonia," Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos told AS."If he continues on this path, working hard and being humble, he will do great things worldwide.

"He is a player that right now is graced with a magic touch. He is crucial for Real and for the national team. He is going through a great spell and we hope he continues like this."

AS reported in April that Liverpool had a €50 million bid for Asensio turned down by Real, while Manchester United have reportedly been monitoring the 21-year-old.

Marca report that Asensio will soon sign an improved contract with Real, until June 2023, which will include a release clause of €350m.

His current deal expires in 2022.

Real president Florentino Perez is also a fan and says Asensio is one of a kind.

He told Marca this week: "It's not that Asensio is great but rather that he can become a Ballon d'Or winner.

"He has all the quality to succeed. He is humble, hard-working, smart, a team player and has a tremendous quality. All his teammates agree.

"It's not a case of money. It's one of those young players we signed because the quality was there to play for the first team.

"This has been his first season and [Real coach Zinedine] Zidane has done a marvellous job managing him.

"Each time he has come out onto the pitch, he has done a magnificent job."

Asensio joined Real from home club Mallorca in December 2014 in a €3.9m transfer but remained with them until the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

He spent the next season on loan at Espanyol before making his competitive debut with Real last August in his team's 3-2 win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.
